Yours truly, Chief David Beautiful Bald Eagle (Mnicoujou Lakota), Louie Freiberg.

Louie gets my newsletter and he was kind enough to introduce me to several of his friends.

Tim Wapato and Gay Kingman are two more of Louie's friends.

They invited me over to their house in Rapid City for a cookout. Tim and Gay have both worked for the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA). Tim has been the Executive Director, Gay the Public Relations and Seminar Director. Gay's great grandfather Sunka Cankohan (Dogs Backbone) was killed at the Little Big Horn. A marker will be added for him on June 26th, 2003. Tim was with the Los Angeles Police Department for over 20 years. They were very gracious hosts.

I spent the night at the Alex Johnson Hotel.

It has some interesting Indian designs.

Some Indian groups used the swastika design long before Hitler was born.

The Wounded Knee Cemetery.

The marker for the mass grave of the Indians killed at Wounded Knee in 1890.

A detailed look at the gravestone. Chief Big Foot is the first name.

It says: "Dec. 29, 1890. Chief Big Foot, Mr. High Hawk, Mr. Shading Bear, Long Bull, White American, Black Coyote, Ghost Horse, Living Bear, Afraid Of Bear, Young Afraid Of Bear, Yellow Robe, Wounded Hand, Red Eagle, Pretty Hawk, Wm. Horn Cloud, Sherman Horn Cloud, Scatters Them, Red Fish, Swift Bird, He Crow, Little Water, Strong Fox"

The same monument and the mass grave for the Indians.

Also in the picture are Dean Campbell and Tarita Hairy Chin. Louie introduced me to Dean & Tarita. They were kind enough to let me stay with them. We went from Rapid City to Pine Ridge, the Badlands and Eagle Butte.

More of the cemetery and the Visitor Center.

More details of the marker...

It says: "This Monument is erected by surviving relatives and other Ogallala and Cheyenne River Sioux Indians in memory of the Chief Big Foot Massacre. Dec. 29, 1890. Col. Forsyth in command of U.S. Troops. Big Foot was a great chief of the Sioux Indians. He often said 'I will stand in peace till my last day comes.' He did many good and brave deeds for the white man and the red man. Many innocent women and children who knew no wrong died here."

Yes, Indians are allowed.

Yours truly in the Badlands of South Dakota.

Phil, Dean & Tarita.
