Karen Sussman is the President of the Society For The Preservation of Wild Burros and Mustangs. She helps manage a ranch for wild mustangs and burros on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. I was there for a blessing ceremony for her new house and for the group's efforts. That's Karen without the hat.
According to Karen, this group of horses (by way of DNA testing) were part of a herd which can be traced back to the original horses brought from Spain in 1640 by Father Kino. They are from the Gila River area of Arizona.
