Academy Award nominated writer (Best Writing, Original Screenplay for: Babel in 2006) Guillermo Arriaga has his directorial debut on "Burning Plain." The movie features Kim Basinger and Charlize Theron.

According to a Wikipedia article, Guillermo Arriaga does not like the term "screenwriter." I asked him about this. He says he does not like the word which is most often used to describe screenwriters in Spanish. It also means people who write tour guides.

He has written the screenplay for several movies: Amores perros; Powder Keg; 21 Grams; The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada; Babel; The Night Buffalo; Dusk and The Burning Plain. He received the 2005 Cannes Film Festival Best Screenplay Award for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
