At approximately 12 miles long, according to some sources, Buckskin Gulch has the longest slot canyons in the world.
According to the sign at the Wire Pass Trailhead:
"You're about to embark on an unforgettable adventure. The stunning scenery of Coyote Buttes attracts hikers from all over the world. Buckskin Gulch is a winding chasm of stone and spectacular cliffs. Either fork will lead you through a fantastic geological story. From this trailhead, you can access two separate destinations, Buckskin Gulch or Coyote Buttes and The Wave."
We were traveling with two children (9 & 7). Even if we could have gotten one of the only 20 daily permits to visit The Wave, I knew it would be a hard trip for them. One would find the hike taxing. The other would be hard pressed to stay on the trail, as he likes to climb everything he sees. In any case, this is an amazing area of land.
