'Officer Phil' Konstantin's TV - Page 1

I started working at KUSI on May 6, 2005. This was just four days after my retirement from the California Highway Patrol (August 5, 1985-May 1, 2005). I do traffic reports between 5am and 9am, Monday through Friday, as a part of KUSI's morning news broadcast. KUSI is on Ch. 9 on cable in San Diego. It is broadcast in San Diego on Ch. 51. Even though I have retired from the CHP, many people call me 'Officer Phil.'

My newest book:

"The Wacky World of Laws"
It was just released in May 2009.

The Wacky World of Laws is a compilation of U.S. and International Laws that are out of the ordinary. With the U.S. churning out 500,000 new laws every year and 2 million regulations annually, this book is the ideal go-to book fro everyone who wants a good laugh at the expense of our legal system. Law so often can be boring! Now with The Wacky World of Laws, you can be the hit of any water cooler conversation, and amaze your friends with precious legal nuggets.

Ask 'Officer Phil'
Always had a question about traffic or the law, but, did not know who to ask?
Several times a week, I'll answer our viewers' questions on the air.

Tony Alva

Tony Alva, May 27, 2005
A new style of skateboarding emerged in the 1970s. It was patterned after techniques used by surfers. Legendary skateboarder Tony Alva was one of the people who created this new form of skateboarding. His (and his friends) story first saw the big screen in the 2002 documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys." Their exploits will become more well-known with the 2005 Hollywood version of their story "Lords of Dogtown." Tony visited us on May 27th to talk about "Lords of Dogtown." FYI, 'Dogtown' refers to the neighborhood where Tony grew up. I used to skateboard in the old days when the wheels were made of metal. My daughter Heidi is an excellent skateboarder.

Randy "Duke" Cunningham

Representative Randy 'Duke' Cunningham, May 31, 2005
On May 31, 2005, Congressional Representative Randy "Duke" Cunningham came by to discuss some current issues. Duke earned a masters in education in 1965 from the University of Missouri. According to his official biography, Representative Cunningham was nominated for the Medal of Honor, received the Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, fifteen Air Medals, the Purple Heart, and several other decorations for his service as a Navy pilot during Vietnam. He eventually became one of the lead instructors at the Navy's "Top Gun" school in San Diego. In 2004, he was elected to his eighth term in Congress.

He visited us before the controversy about the sale of his home to a defense contractor began.

On November 28, 2005, Representative Cunningham announced he was going to plead guilty to a series of charges against him. He also said he was going to resign from his elected office.

Jorge Hank Rhon

Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon, June 1, 2005
It was June 1st when Jorge Hank Rhon came by to discuss several subjects with David and Susan. He is the mayor of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, and one of the richest men in Mexico. Tijuana is just across the border from San Diego. It is estimated that 250,000 people cross the border each day between Tijuana and San Diego, more than any other place in the world. Tijuana has had well over 150 murders in the first four months of this year. Mayor Rhon told Susan and David that many of these homicides were related to drug cartels fighting each other. He feels that the ordinary tourist is very safe in Tijuana. Mayor Rhon said he has installed cameras in many public places to insure the safety of tourists. Incidentally, he has 19 children.
